Supporting Occupational Therapyin low & middle income countries

Volunteering and Work Opportunities

We are passionate about equipping occupational therapists to practice appropriately in low and middle income countries (LMICs) and we are pleased to provide advice and support. Please find information and links about opportunities below and contact us with any queries. Our best recommendation is to read our Working in Less Resourced Settings guide.

Please note that OT Frontiers offers information in a spirit of mutual sharing. We do not necessarily endorse or recommend any organisation we refer to and are not able to formally advise individuals. Please make your own enquiries regarding the legitimacy and safety of any organisation you plan to engage with and about the safety of any country you plan to visit. OT Frontiers STRONGLY ADVISES individuals to check the travel advice section of the British Government Foreign and Commonwealth Office. Please be aware that advice may change as situations in overseas countries may change. Organisations in other countries do not always have advanced policies or understanding of the implications of security situations for foreign visitors; it is the responsibility of the prospective visitor to make their own judgment.

Gorkha Development Scheme

Gorkha Development Scheme (GDS) is a very small grassroots NGO looking for Occupational Therapists with paediatric experience to volunteer in Nepal. Their aims involve equipping teachers, families and local connections to support school-based projects focusing on early childhood development, and improving women's health and children's hygiene. They welcome occupational therapists with experience of working with the deaf community, children and young people with Learning Disabilities, and those with experience of teaching/education, wheelchairs, music and art.
